Norma Ureña, Director of NUKARI Foundation, a Center for International Intercultural Exchange, and the INSPIRA Network from the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador are excited to launch the “CONNECTING EFL to the Digital ERA” ONLINE training program for English teachers today!

We welcome all educators from the different programs funded by the US Department of State in Ecuador to join us. It will be a pleasure to have you all on board!

This training program is part of a series of events organized by INSPIRA LEADERS and funded by the US Department of State in Ecuador. Nukari Foundation teams up with Centro Ecuatoriano Norteamericano to offer this training course with the sole purpose of helping English language teachers transfer their teaching skills to a live online teaching context.

English language teachers from the Inspira Network who wish to upgrade their knowledge in order to transfer their teaching language skills to a live online teaching context.

During this training program participants will learn about different educational web-tools to transfer their teaching language skills to a live online teaching context.

  • Closing Remarks with further learning oportunities  (1 hour) 

You can choose from two different schedules (7:00AM -9:00AM) (9:15AM to 11:15AM)

Trainers will use hands-on activities to help participants understand and use different web-tools during the session. They will also facilitate a question and answer session.

Pablo Serrano, EFL teacher certified by the OISE of Toronto University. He has experience working with teenagers and adults alike. Technology enthusiast, he has experience with online platforms such as ZOOM both as a student and a teacher. He likes to implement interactive elements in all of his lessons in order to create a fun atmosphere during his online lessons.

“I am a Master in Pedagogy of National and Foreign Languages from Casa Grande University, with a TEFL certification. I hold a TESOL certification in English Language Teaching for Students with Exceptional Needs. I have been an English teacher for children and adults in important academies in Guayaquil. Expert in the use of technological resources for language teaching and EFL Assessment. I am currently working as an Academic Assistant in a Bi-National Center (Centro Ecuatoriano Norteamericano).”

Christian Gavilanez

Web-based tools for Reading Comprehension

Christian Gavilanes has 20 years experience in the EFL teaching field. He currently works as the responsible for English in the Language Center at PUCE (Catholic University Quito), EFL teacher and instructor for the “Maestría en Pedagogía del Inglés como Lengua Extranjera” at PUCE Quito and Ibarra. He is also working towards his Doctorate in Modern Languages at Middlebury College in Vermont USA. Christian Gavilanes has taught different courses throughout his career: Academic and Creative Writing, Academic Reading, Methodology of Language Teaching, Evaluation and Assessment in EFL.

Justin Trulliger

Justin Trullinger has been an English teacher since 1999, and a member of the School for International Training (Brattleboro, Vermont)’s affiliated teacher-training faculty since 2006. He has lived, taught, and trained teachers in a variety of countries worldwide, including Ecuador, Lebanon, South Korea, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Guatemala, and the US. He is currently based in Quito, where he trains on the SIT TESOL Certificate course at EIL Ecuador and, with his wife, operates one of Ecuador’s oldest bookstores.
